THREEWINGS is a youth-led non-profit organization seeking to establish and sustain a vibrant cultural arts center for queer young people in Seattle. Through our primary campaign, Queer Youth Space, we have placed ourselves as young people at the forefront of our own movement and created an innovative model of constituent-led non-profit organizing. While we tailor many resources and services to the needs of queer young people, we hope to move beyond vague concepts such as “empowerment” and “safe space” in order to train, hire, and galvanize the next generation of social justice leaders. We employ a comprehensive, three-pronged approach that was designed directly by queer youth:

WING 1 | CULTURAL ACTIVISM creates queer peer support networks and solidarity while providing a space where queer youth can socialize, work, and create together.

WING 2 | WELLNESS COLLABORATIVE offers critical education and referrals to health and wellness services in order to mitigate the health disparities experienced by queer youth.

WING 3 | COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH AND EDUCATION works to change the policies and cultural practices that hurt our community by building leadership skills through research, education, and advocacy.

We are please to announce the following part-time staff position:

Program Coordinator (15-20 hours/week)

WING 3 l Coordinator of Research & Education

With the addition of a committed staff team, we hope to expand our impact in the community. We invite all young people of all identities to apply. We especially encourage trans* youth, young people of color, and those who have experienced homelessness to apply for WING positions.

How do we turn to sex, intimacy, and desire in response to histories of ancestral violence and contemporary violent racialization? How do we use art as a way to heal and decolonize from legacies of violence and actually re-imagine this violence as sites of resilience and fabulosity? How do we envision a (a)sexual praxis that is about solidarity and revolution rather than manipulation and capitalism? We’re not tryna get gay married honey gurl. As the organizers of this event, we decided by consensus to move the date of Table Manners from April 14th to September 14th.

The goal of Table Manners is create a creative, fun and inclusive event that builds community and fundraises for QYS. Moving Table Manners to the fall allows us more time to reach out, partner, and get the word out. It’s important to us that news of this event travels far and wide in our many Seattle communities, and taking more time to reach more folks is in line with our goals.

As community members, you are both part of the process and the celebration that QYS is creating through Table Manners.

Contact Maggie Campbell (campbell.maggiesue@gmail.com) with questions and comments.

Sincerely,

Queer Youth Space

TABLE MANNERS: A RAD FUNDRAISER FOR QYS

Do you keep your elbows off the table, chew with your mouth closed, and always ask permission to be excused? Didn’t think so.

Are you a poet, a painter, a musician, a drag performer, an artist? Eager to explore the relationships between bodies and furniture, food and family, polite behavior and ill-mannered revolution? Yes?!

Pull up a chair for QYS’s first annual fundraising event! Participating artists will be given a prompt and 24 hours to create an original work of art to present at our April 14th showcase.

As young queer folks, we are constantly told to behave, to wait our turn, to mind our manners. It’s time to publish our own book on etiquette. Now’s your chance to slurp your soup, slouch in your chair and belch. Loudly. A chance to be seen and heard. Come celebrate QYS’s journey from organizing collective to physical space and national movement!

To register as an artist, visit http://queertablemanners.eventbrite.com/.
